PLEASE BE CAREFUL

We encourage you to get prices from other landscapers – there are some excellent landscape companies, but we beg you to be careful about the company you choose.

Every week we hear horror stories from home owners who have been burned by unscrupulous contractors who:

  1. Take the customers money, but don’t complete the job
  2. Do poor quality work and don’t return to fix their problems
  3. Aren’t qualified to do the contracted work
  4. Demand more money than originally agreed because they underbid the price
  5. Don’t show up when they say or take months to finish the work
  6. Are difficult to contact or communicate with
  7. Damage the property and refuse to fix it

… These stories make us sad. There are thousands of people calling themselves landscapers in Arizona and many of them even have contractor’s licenses, but it can be difficult to find those who you can use with complete confidence. Unfortunately, we can’t tell you for sure who to avoid, but here are some things to look for:

  1. Are they a licensed contractor & do they have any complaints with the ROC?
    1. To check, go to AZROC.gov then click on Contractor Search. You may want to also check that their license covers what they are actually bidding and please consider searching by the officer’s names to verify they don’t have a history of bad practices. To check CYC Landscaping, please include the spaces between C Y C.  We have zero complaints.
    2. If they are not a licensed contractor, they cannot legally do work valued at over $1000. You have no recourse if they don’t complete the work in a workmanlike manner. They are unlikely to have either the knowledge or resources to perform a larger job
  1. How long have they been in business?
    1. Almost all businesses that fail do so in the first two years (80%) – when the economy is slow, new companies struggle even more. While there are some good companies that haven’t been around very long, it’s important to be careful when relying on their warranty or if you give them a deposit. Extremely low prices can be a sign that they need the money to keep the doors open. Please be careful.
    2. CYC has been in business for over seven years. We’re well past the danger zone, so you can be confident we’ll be around for many years.
  1. Make sure they give you a written contract and warranty and please make sure it’s a solid price.
    1. Many companies give you an “estimate” that will change if the work turns out to be difficult or inconvenient. When you get the final bill, it can be significantly higher (they never seem to end up lower). CYC will give you a solid price. If there is a change, we will discuss it with you and make the change in writing.
    2. Carefully read the warranty. Of course, if they aren’t going to be in business, or if they won’t answer the phone when you have a problem, it doesn’t matter. CYC has the best overall warranty in the Arizona landscaping industry.
  1. How easy are they to get hold of?  Do they do what they say?  How long will the job take to finish?
    1. If you can’t get in touch with them now – when you’re getting a price, how will they be when there’s a problem? CYC has a dedicated office staff from 8am – 5pm Monday to Friday. They will usually answer your call, or if they are on other lines, they will call you back promptly.
    2. If a landscaper can’t show up to a quote on time, or get back to you when they say, do you trust them to do the work they promise? CYC works hard to always do what we say. We actually show up!
    3. Many companies will start a job, then leave it half done for weeks or months. This is usually due to either cash-flow problems or simply poor planning. CYC will complete your project quickly once started. Our professional, trained personnel can complete most jobs from 1-15 days.

There are some good landscapers in Arizona, the difficulty is finding them. We know you’ll be happy if you choose us. CYC’s customers would recommend us to friends and family over 95% of the time. That’s based on both our great products and service and our wonderful people.
